Construction Isle of Man representatives attend Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm presentation

New jobs, supply chain opportunities and economic benefits were the main talking points in an Ørsted presentation to representatives from Construction Isle of Man.

Richard Watson (Technical Director, Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm) and Bjørn Andersen (Generation Package Manager, Ørsted) covered a wide range of topics, including:

  • A summary of Ørsted’s backstory, and its position today as the world’s leading offshore wind company
  • An update about the current status of the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm project, the first offshore wind farm proposed within the Isle of Man’s territorial seas
  • The bigger picture about Irish Sea offshore wind developments in the UK’s and the Republic of Ireland’s territorial seas
  • Technical details about how Ørsted constructs offshore wind farms, and the latest technology it uses to minimise environmental, noise and other impacts. This includes Osonic technology which is redefining offshore wind foundation installation by delivering quiet, efficient, and sustainable solutions for energy transition
  • c£2bn economic benefits, new jobs & a Community Investment Fund which the Isle of Man would gain from the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm
  • How Ørsted typically engages with supply chain partners, with examples of successful partnerships created to supply its 12 operational UK offshore wind farms
  • How Isle of Man construction sector businesses could become part of the supply chain for Mooir Vannin
  • Presenting factual, evidence based, information about common myths and misunderstandings regarding offshore wind farms

The presentation was followed by a productive Q&A session, and a thank you from the Ørsted team to the attendees for their interest in the Mooir Vannin project.

Construction Isle of Man works with government, consultants, contractors, developers, tradespeople and the general public to promote the construction industry.

The presentation by Ørsted was part of an ongoing Isle of Man stakeholder programme to inform and engage with private, public and third sector organisations.
