Working with the Isle of Man community

We deliver more than green energy – we deliver lasting positive community impacts

Ørsted is the global leader in offshore wind and one of the largest renewable energy companies in the world.

However, over 30 years of experience has taught us that we only really succeed if our renewable energy projects also bring social, economic and environmental benefits to the local communities where we construct and operate our offshore wind farms.

In the Isle of Man, we are proposing to build the Island’s first offshore wind farm: Mooir Vannin. As we work with the Isle of Man Government to develop our proposal, we are also working collaboratively with the following local events, organisations and initiatives to deliver lasting positive benefits to the Island’s community.

Bushy’s TT Village sponsorship

Ørsted was the proud headline sponsor of Bushy’s TT Village in 2023, 2024 and will continue that support in 2025. Set in the Villa Marina Gardens on Douglas Promenade, and taking place in the summer when visitor numbers are at their peak, huge crowds flock to enjoy live music from local bands plus delicious Manx food and drink. It’s an event that’s at the heart of the community, and one which is equally popular with residents and visitors.

Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)

As an offshore wind company, we have a special appreciation for the courageous RNLI lifeboat crews who save lives at sea. Ørsted’s partnership with the RNLI in the UK began in 2015. Our support for the charity’s 200th anniversary celebrations included sponsoring their Gala Dinner in the Isle of Man in 2023, and again in 2024.  Together the two events raised around £100,000 to help all the lifeboat stations across Island. Our longstanding national partnership was extended in 2024 to provide support to 80 RNLI stations across the East, West and North of England including the Isle of Man and Wales.

Manx Wildlife Trust ‘Make Space for Nature’ initiative

We’re supporting Manx Wildlife Trust’s ‘Make Space for Nature’ initiative. The campaign encourages everyone in the Island take action to support biodiversity by inspiring residents to transform outdoor spaces, at their homes, workplaces and in the wider community, into havens for wildlife.

Gaia art exhibition

In 2024 we played a part in bringing British artist Luke Jerram’s spectacular Gaia globe to the Isle of Man for the first time. The stunning six metre diameter artwork uses high-definition NASA images to give a thought-provoking perspective of the beauty and fragility of our planet. Over three weeks more than 15,000 visitors, including many school students, saw the installation at St Thomas’ Church in Douglas. The exhibition was made possible by a partnership involving St Thomas’ Church, Isle of Man Arts Council, Net Zero Isle of Man, UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man, and Ørsted as the headline sponsor.
