Mooir Vannin team give project update to RINA & IMarEST members
The event in March was attended by local members of the Joint Branch of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) and The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST). RINA is the global governing body for naval architecture and maritime engineering. IMarEST is a registered charity and international professional body for all marine professionals.
The presentation was given by John Galloway (Ørsted Development Director for the Isle of Man); Fiona Dawson (Stakeholder and Public Affairs Lead, Isle of Man); and Richard Watson (Technical Director for the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm). It began with a summary of Ørsted’s proposals to build the first offshore wind farm the Isle of Man’s territorial seas, and an overview of the company’s offshore wind projects that are currently in operation or under development in the UK, Ireland and globally. This was followed by a detailed explanation of technical and engineering aspects of the Mooir Vannin proposals.
John Galloway thanked RINA and IMarEST members for their continued interest in the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm, and RINA and IMarEST Isle of Man Branch Secretary Roy McLean for organising the event.
The Isle of Man Joint Branch Secretary said the number of questions asked showed that there is considerable interest in the Mooir Vannin project. He thanked the Mooir Vannin team for the presentation, and added that RINA and IMarEST members would welcome further opportunities for updates as the project progresses.
This event is part of an extensive Ørsted Isle of Man stakeholder engagement programme with private, public and third sector organisations which is in addition to Ørsted’s public consultation about Mooir Vannin that was held in summer 2024.
