Chamber members given update about Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm project

A presentation to Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce gave the business community an opportunity to get an update about the Mooir Vannin Offshore Wind Farm project.
John Galloway, Ørsted Development Director for the Isle of Man, began by setting the scene regarding all offshore wind farms in the Irish Sea (including those in UK waters) that are currently operational or under development. He then covered key points about the Mooir Vannin project proposals which include:

• Potential IOM business, economic, financial & jobs benefits
• The option to bring power to the Isle of Man which offers ESG & energy security benefits
• A proposed Isle of Man Community Investment Fund which would deliver £1.5m per year of direct funding to the Island’s community for the first 15 operational years of the wind farm - in addition to revenue going to Isle of Man Government from licencing and tax
• Ørsted’s significant investment in seabed & environmental surveys
• Ørsted’s approach to sustainability & biodiversity
• A commitment to ongoing innovation in making wind & other renewable energy technologies even more efficient & sustainable

The presentation included Q&As with the audience who were from a cross-section of the business community.
